Natural Portrait Photography

The word "Natural" is used a lot to describe my style of photography. There is natural light, natural surroundings and natural expressions. They all work together as a team to create the most beautiful photo. Of course, natural light is the foundation of all photography combined with natural surroundings for that light to bounce off of. The most important "natural" is the expression. Without it, I have nothing...

So, what is a natural expressions in a photo? For me, it is the natural personality being captured at it's best. There is sometimes only a nano-second of a window for me to click the camera and capture this perfect expression. Sometimes, I need to use unexpected techniques to generate the true personality. The techniques I use are typically unconventional and fun. I hardly ever say "smile for the camera". this is guaranteed a fake, cheesy smile.

Most of us are not natural models and it takes some creativity in portrait photography to bring out your true personality. Every single photo shoot starts off with that awkward smile once I hold up the camera. It takes some warming up but I can always break through to the genuine person I am photographing.
